What PDF Reader does
PDF Reader opens a PDF in a simple viewer in your browser. It is useful on shared or work computers without a PDF app, or when a file does not open in the viewer you normally use. You can zoom, jump to a page and search the text.
Pages are rendered with pdf.js as you scroll, so long documents open quickly and only the pages near the screen are drawn. Password-protected files ask for the password before they open. The reader only displays the file: it does not change it or create a new one.
How to use PDF Reader
- Drop a PDF or click to open one.
- Scroll, zoom, jump to a page or search the text.
When to use PDF Reader
- Read a PDF attachment on a library, school or office computer where you cannot install software.
- Look through a long manual or report and jump straight to the pages that mention a product name or keyword.
- Open a password-protected bank statement or payslip on a device without a PDF app by entering its password.
- Check a PDF you just created with another tool, such as a merged or compressed file, before you send it.
Settings explained
- Zoom in
- The plus and minus buttons change the zoom in steps of about 20 percent, from 25 to 400 percent. When a file opens, the zoom is set so the page fits the width of the viewer.
- Page
- The page box shows the page you are viewing and the total number of pages. Type a page number and press Enter to jump straight to that page.
- Search in document
- Type a word or phrase and click Find. The search ignores upper and lower case and lists every page with a match as a button. The viewer jumps to the first one; click the others to go there.
- Password
- Appears when a file is protected. Enter the password and click Open. If it is wrong, a message appears and you can try again. The file itself stays protected.
What is PDF?
PDF (Portable Document Format) is a document format introduced by Adobe in 1993. Files use the .pdf extension.
PDF was created by Adobe to show documents the same way on any device and printer. A PDF file describes pages with text, fonts, vector graphics and images at fixed positions. It became an open ISO standard in 2008, and there are special variants such as PDF/A for archiving and PDF/X for printing.
PDF is the right choice for documents that must look the same everywhere, such as contracts, invoices, forms, manuals, reports and files for printing. It also supports digital signatures, fillable forms, comments and password protection.
PDF is hard to edit, because text is stored as positioned pieces, not as flowing paragraphs. Converting a PDF to Word may change the layout. Scanned PDFs contain pictures of text, not real text, unless OCR has been applied.
All major web browsers open PDF files directly. Windows, macOS, iOS and most Android phones include a PDF viewer, and Adobe Acrobat Reader and many free apps can view, annotate and fill PDF forms on all platforms.
Why use FansBond PDF Reader
Most online converters upload your files to their servers. FansBond PDF Reader does the work inside your browser instead, using WebAssembly and modern browser APIs. Your files stay on your device, which is safer for private photos, contracts and unreleased work, and it is often faster because nothing has to upload or download.
There are no queues, no watermarks and no account. Once the page has loaded, the tool keeps working even on a slow connection.
Tips for the best result
- Search finds words only in PDFs that contain real text. Scanned pages are images, so a search there finds nothing, even if you can read the words.
- The search shows which pages match but does not mark the words on the page. Zoom in to find the word quickly on a page with a lot of text.
- In long documents, use the page box instead of scrolling. Pages are drawn only when you reach them, so after a fast scroll a page can stay blank briefly.
- Use Start over to close the file and open another one. The reader never changes your file, so there is nothing to save.
How PDF Reader works in your browser
Pages are rendered with pdf.js, the PDF engine built into Firefox, running on your device. It reads fonts, vector graphics and embedded images and draws each page on a canvas.
For conversions and previews, the rendered pages are encoded as images in your browser. Text search, zoom and page navigation all work on the local copy of the file.
Privacy and security
Most online converters upload your files to a server, process them there and keep a copy for some time. PDF Reader works differently: the code is downloaded to your browser once, and your files are read and written only on your device.
You can check this yourself: after the page has loaded, turn off your internet connection and the tool still works. This makes it safe for contracts, IDs, medical records, private photos and unreleased work.
Frequently asked questions
Is PDF Reader free?
Yes. PDF Reader on FansBond is completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Your files are processed in your browser on your own device. They are never sent to FansBond or anyone else.
Do I need to install any software?
No. It works in any modern browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge) on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iPhone.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no fixed limit. Because the work happens on your device, the practical limit depends on your device's memory. Most phones handle files of a few hundred megabytes, and computers handle much more.
Can I select text or click links in the reader?
No. Pages are shown as rendered images, so text cannot be selected and links cannot be clicked. Search still works because the text is read in the background. To copy text, open the file in a full PDF viewer or convert it with PDF to Word.
Can I fill in forms or add notes in the reader?
No, the reader only displays documents. To type on a page, use Edit PDF; to add highlights and notes, use Annotate PDF; to sign, use E-Sign PDF. These tools save a new copy of the PDF with your changes.
Why does my file not open?
The file may be damaged, incomplete or not a real PDF, for example a download that stopped early or a file with a renamed extension. Try downloading it again. If the file is protected, a password box appears, and the file opens only with the correct password.
