What Edit PDF does
Edit PDF lets you add content on top of PDF pages: new text, images such as a logo or stamp, rectangles, ellipses, freehand lines, and white boxes that cover existing content. It suits quick changes to a document you received as a PDF when you do not have the original Word or design file.
Every page is shown as a preview rendered with pdf.js. When you click Save PDF, pdf-lib draws your additions into the original pages and saves a new file with -edited at the end of the name. The existing content of the pages is not changed or re-rendered.
How to use Edit PDF
- Drop the PDF you want to work on.
- Choose a tool from the toolbar and click on the page to use it.
- Move, resize or delete anything you added before saving.
- Click Save PDF to download the result.
When to use Edit PDF
- Correct a wrong date or amount on an invoice by covering it with Whiteout and typing the right value on top.
- Add a company logo or a stamp image to the top of a quote, letter or certificate before sending it.
- Complete a form that has no fillable fields by typing your name, address and answers onto the printed lines.
- Mark an area on a floor plan or drawing with a rectangle or a freehand line before sending it to a builder.
Settings explained
- Text
- Click anywhere on a page to add a text box and type into it; press Enter for a new line. Text is saved in Helvetica, or in an embedded Unicode font for characters such as Cyrillic or Greek letters.
- Image
- Opens a file picker for a PNG, JPEG or WEBP image. Click on the page to place it, then drag the corner handle to resize it. Width and height change together, so the image is never stretched.
- Whiteout
- Drag a box over content you want to hide. It draws a white rectangle on the page. Combine it with Text to replace a word or number. It hides content visually but does not delete it from the file.
- Rectangle
- Drag to draw a rectangle outline with a 2-point border in the selected color. Ellipse works the same way and draws an oval. Shapes have no fill, so the content underneath stays visible.
- Draw
- Draws freehand lines with a mouse, finger or stylus. The line thickness is a quarter of the Font size value, but at least 2 points. The tool stays active, so you can draw several lines in a row.
- Select
- Click an item you added to select it, drag it to move it, and drag the round corner handle to resize it. Press Delete or click the cross to remove it. Undo removes the last item you added.
What is PDF?
PDF (Portable Document Format) is a document format introduced by Adobe in 1993. Files use the .pdf extension.
PDF was created by Adobe to show documents the same way on any device and printer. A PDF file describes pages with text, fonts, vector graphics and images at fixed positions. It became an open ISO standard in 2008, and there are special variants such as PDF/A for archiving and PDF/X for printing.
PDF is the right choice for documents that must look the same everywhere, such as contracts, invoices, forms, manuals, reports and files for printing. It also supports digital signatures, fillable forms, comments and password protection.
PDF is hard to edit, because text is stored as positioned pieces, not as flowing paragraphs. Converting a PDF to Word may change the layout. Scanned PDFs contain pictures of text, not real text, unless OCR has been applied.
All major web browsers open PDF files directly. Windows, macOS, iOS and most Android phones include a PDF viewer, and Adobe Acrobat Reader and many free apps can view, annotate and fill PDF forms on all platforms.
Why use FansBond Edit PDF
Most online converters upload your files to their servers. FansBond Edit PDF does the work inside your browser instead, using WebAssembly and modern browser APIs. Your files stay on your device, which is safer for private photos, contracts and unreleased work, and it is often faster because nothing has to upload or download.
There are no queues, no watermarks and no account. Once the page has loaded, the tool keeps working even on a slow connection.
Tips for the best result
- Whiteout only covers content: the hidden text stays in the file and can still be copied. For confidential content, also use Flatten PDF with Whole page to image.
- Choose the color and font size before you add text. You can also select an item later and change its color or size in the toolbar.
- When you save, your additions become part of the page and cannot be selected again. Keep the original PDF in case you need to change them later.
- Added images are stored as PNG, so a large photo can make the PDF much bigger. Scale photos down with Resize Image before you add them.
How Edit PDF works in your browser
Each page is rendered with pdf.js so you can see it and place items exactly. What you add is kept as separate objects until you save, so you can move, resize or delete it at any time.
When you save, pdf-lib writes your text, drawings, images and fields into the original PDF. The original page content is not re-rendered, so existing text stays sharp and selectable.
Privacy and security
Most online converters upload your files to a server, process them there and keep a copy for some time. Edit PDF works differently: the code is downloaded to your browser once, and your files are read and written only on your device.
You can check this yourself: after the page has loaded, turn off your internet connection and the tool still works. This makes it safe for contracts, IDs, medical records, private photos and unreleased work.
Frequently asked questions
Can I change the existing text in my PDF?
You can hide existing text with white-out and type new text on top of it. Rewriting the original text in place is not supported, because PDF text is stored as positioned glyphs rather than editable paragraphs.
Is Edit PDF free?
Yes. Edit PDF on FansBond is completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Your files are processed in your browser on your own device. They are never sent to FansBond or anyone else.
Do I need to install any software?
No. It works in any modern browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge) on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iPhone.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no fixed limit. Because the work happens on your device, the practical limit depends on your device's memory. Most phones handle files of a few hundred megabytes, and computers handle much more.
Can I edit a password-protected PDF?
If the PDF needs a password to open, the editor cannot open it. If it opens but restricts editing, saving fails with a message that the file is encrypted. In both cases, remove the protection with Unlock PDF first, then edit the unlocked copy.
Will links, bookmarks and form fields in my PDF still work?
Yes. The original document is kept and your additions are drawn on top of its pages, so existing links, bookmarks, form fields and selectable text remain. A certificate-based digital signature that is already in the file becomes invalid, because the document changes.
Can the text I add be selected and searched?
Yes. Added text is saved as real PDF text with an embedded font, so it can be selected, copied and found by search. In rare cases, when text cannot be written with either font, that text box is saved as an image instead.
