What Crop PDF does
Crop PDF trims the edges of PDF pages. Typical reasons are wide white margins around scanned pages, printer marks around a print-ready file, or a page where only part of the content is needed, such as a ticket or label printed on an A4 sheet.
You set how much to remove from each side as a percentage of the page. pdf-lib then sets the visible area of each selected page, its crop box and media box, to the smaller rectangle. Content outside the new edges is hidden but not deleted from the file. The result is saved with -cropped.
How to use Crop PDF
- Drop your PDF files into the box.
- Set the options for crop pdf.
- Click Apply. The PDF is processed on your device.
- Download the new PDF.
When to use Crop PDF
- Remove the wide white borders around scanned book pages or receipts so the text appears larger on a phone screen.
- Cut away crop marks and bleed from a print-ready PDF before sending a proof to a client by email.
- Trim a shipping label or event ticket printed on the top part of an A4 page down to the label itself.
- Cut off headers or footers, such as page numbers or logos, before inserting the pages into another document.
Settings explained
- Top
- How much to cut from the top edge, as a percentage of the page height, from 0 to 45 percent. The default is 5 percent, which on an A4 page is about 15 mm.
- Bottom
- How much to cut from the bottom edge, as a percentage of the page height, from 0 to 45 percent. Raise it to remove footers or page numbers, or set it to 0 to keep the bottom edge.
- Left
- How much to cut from the left edge, as a percentage of the page width, from 0 to 45 percent. On an A4 page the default of 5 percent is about 10 mm.
- Right
- How much to cut from the right edge, as a percentage of the page width. Use the same value as Left to keep the content centered, or 0 to keep the right edge as it is.
- Pages (empty = all)
- Leave it empty to crop every page with the same values. Or list pages and ranges separated by commas, such as 1, 3-5, 9-, where 9- means page 9 to the end. Other pages keep their size.
What is PDF?
PDF (Portable Document Format) is a document format introduced by Adobe in 1993. Files use the .pdf extension.
PDF was created by Adobe to show documents the same way on any device and printer. A PDF file describes pages with text, fonts, vector graphics and images at fixed positions. It became an open ISO standard in 2008, and there are special variants such as PDF/A for archiving and PDF/X for printing.
PDF is the right choice for documents that must look the same everywhere, such as contracts, invoices, forms, manuals, reports and files for printing. It also supports digital signatures, fillable forms, comments and password protection.
PDF is hard to edit, because text is stored as positioned pieces, not as flowing paragraphs. Converting a PDF to Word may change the layout. Scanned PDFs contain pictures of text, not real text, unless OCR has been applied.
All major web browsers open PDF files directly. Windows, macOS, iOS and most Android phones include a PDF viewer, and Adobe Acrobat Reader and many free apps can view, annotate and fill PDF forms on all platforms.
Why use FansBond Crop PDF
Most online converters upload your files to their servers. FansBond Crop PDF does the work inside your browser instead, using WebAssembly and modern browser APIs. Your files stay on your device, which is safer for private photos, contracts and unreleased work, and it is often faster because nothing has to upload or download.
There are no queues, no watermarks and no account. Once the page has loaded, the tool keeps working even on a slow connection.
Tips for the best result
- There is no preview, so start with small values, open the result, and adjust the percentages if too much or too little was removed.
- Values are percentages of each page's own size, so pages of different sizes in one file are cropped in proportion, not by the same distance.
- On pages stored with a rotation setting, Top, Bottom, Left and Right refer to the page before rotation, so a sideways scan may be cut on an unexpected side.
- To crop each page differently, run the tool several times on the result with different page lists, for example 1 with one setting and 2- with another.
How Crop PDF works in your browser
The PDF is opened with pdf-lib, an open-source PDF library that runs in your browser. Pages are copied, rotated, resized or cropped at the PDF object level, so text stays text and vector graphics stay sharp.
Because the original page content is copied rather than re-rendered, there is no quality loss. The only exception is an option that explicitly turns pages into images. The new PDF is assembled in memory on your device and offered as a download.
Privacy and security
Most online converters upload your files to a server, process them there and keep a copy for some time. Crop PDF works differently: the code is downloaded to your browser once, and your files are read and written only on your device.
You can check this yourself: after the page has loaded, turn off your internet connection and the tool still works. This makes it safe for contracts, IDs, medical records, private photos and unreleased work.
Frequently asked questions
Is Crop PDF free?
Yes. Crop PDF on FansBond is completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Your files are processed in your browser on your own device. They are never sent to FansBond or anyone else.
Do I need to install any software?
No. It works in any modern browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge) on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iPhone.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no fixed limit. Because the work happens on your device, the practical limit depends on your device's memory. Most phones handle files of a few hundred megabytes, and computers handle much more.
Does cropping make the file smaller?
Usually not. Cropping changes only the visible area of each page; the hidden content, including images, stays in the file. To make the file smaller, run the cropped PDF through PDF Compressor.
Can someone see the parts I cropped away?
Yes, it is possible. The cropped content is still stored in the PDF, and PDF editors can reset the page size to show it again. Do not use cropping to remove confidential information; after cropping, use Flatten PDF with Whole page to image instead.
Can I crop a password-protected PDF?
Not while it is encrypted, even if the file opens without a password but restricts editing. The tool shows a message asking you to remove the protection. Unlock it with Unlock PDF, crop the unlocked copy, and protect it again with Protect PDF if needed.
