What E-Sign PDF does
E-Sign PDF adds a handwritten-style signature to a PDF. You draw it with a mouse, finger or stylus, or type your name and have it set in a cursive font. Then you place it on the page, resize it, and add the date or other text such as your printed name.
The signature is saved as a PNG image with a transparent background and drawn onto the page with pdf-lib, together with any text you add. The result is saved as a new file with -signed at the end of the name. This is a visual electronic signature, not a certificate-based digital signature.
How to use E-Sign PDF
- Drop the PDF you want to work on.
- Choose a tool from the toolbar and click on the page to use it.
- Move, resize or delete anything you added before saving.
- Click Save PDF to download the result.
When to use E-Sign PDF
- Sign a rental agreement, freelance contract or NDA that was sent to you as a PDF, without printing and scanning it.
- Add your signature and the date to a school permission slip, consent form or medical questionnaire.
- Sign delivery notes, timesheets or expense reports and send them back to a manager or client by email.
- Initial each page of a long agreement by drawing short initials and placing them in the page margins.
Settings explained
- Signature
- Opens the signature pad. Choose Draw or Type, pick the ink color, and click Use signature. Then click on the page where it should go and drag the corner handle to resize it; the proportions stay fixed.
- Draw
- Sign in the box with a mouse, touchpad, finger or stylus. A finger or stylus on a phone or tablet usually gives the most natural result. If you make a mistake, click Cancel and open the pad again.
- Type
- Type your name and it is shown in a cursive script font installed on your device, such as Brush Script MT or Segoe Script. The style can look different on different computers and phones.
- Date
- Click on the page to insert today's date in the date format of your browser's language. The date is a normal text box, so you can click into it and change the date or its format.
- Text
- Adds your printed name, job title, place of signing or any other text next to the signature. The Color and Font size settings in the toolbar apply to the new text.
What is PDF?
PDF (Portable Document Format) is a document format introduced by Adobe in 1993. Files use the .pdf extension.
PDF was created by Adobe to show documents the same way on any device and printer. A PDF file describes pages with text, fonts, vector graphics and images at fixed positions. It became an open ISO standard in 2008, and there are special variants such as PDF/A for archiving and PDF/X for printing.
PDF is the right choice for documents that must look the same everywhere, such as contracts, invoices, forms, manuals, reports and files for printing. It also supports digital signatures, fillable forms, comments and password protection.
PDF is hard to edit, because text is stored as positioned pieces, not as flowing paragraphs. Converting a PDF to Word may change the layout. Scanned PDFs contain pictures of text, not real text, unless OCR has been applied.
All major web browsers open PDF files directly. Windows, macOS, iOS and most Android phones include a PDF viewer, and Adobe Acrobat Reader and many free apps can view, annotate and fill PDF forms on all platforms.
Why use FansBond E-Sign PDF
Most online converters upload your files to their servers. FansBond E-Sign PDF does the work inside your browser instead, using WebAssembly and modern browser APIs. Your files stay on your device, which is safer for private photos, contracts and unreleased work, and it is often faster because nothing has to upload or download.
There are no queues, no watermarks and no account. Once the page has loaded, the tool keeps working even on a slow connection.
Tips for the best result
- Each signature you create is placed once. To sign several pages, click Signature again and create the signature for each page you need.
- Use most of the pad when you draw. The whole pad area is saved, so a small signature leaves empty space around it and looks tiny on the page.
- Dark blue or black ink looks most like a real pen signature and stays readable when the document is printed or scanned again.
- Check the result in a PDF viewer before you send it. After saving, the signature, date and text are part of the page and cannot be moved.
How E-Sign PDF works in your browser
Each page is rendered with pdf.js so you can see it and place items exactly. What you add is kept as separate objects until you save, so you can move, resize or delete it at any time.
When you save, pdf-lib writes your text, drawings, images and fields into the original PDF. The original page content is not re-rendered, so existing text stays sharp and selectable.
Privacy and security
Most online converters upload your files to a server, process them there and keep a copy for some time. E-Sign PDF works differently: the code is downloaded to your browser once, and your files are read and written only on your device.
You can check this yourself: after the page has loaded, turn off your internet connection and the tool still works. This makes it safe for contracts, IDs, medical records, private photos and unreleased work.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a legally binding signature?
It adds a visual electronic signature, which many everyday agreements accept. It does not add a certificate-based digital signature, which some contracts and government forms require.
Is E-Sign PDF free?
Yes. E-Sign PDF on FansBond is completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Your files are processed in your browser on your own device. They are never sent to FansBond or anyone else.
Do I need to install any software?
No. It works in any modern browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge) on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iPhone.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no fixed limit. Because the work happens on your device, the practical limit depends on your device's memory. Most phones handle files of a few hundred megabytes, and computers handle much more.
Can I sign a PDF that someone already signed digitally?
You can add your signature, but saving rewrites the file, so an existing certificate-based digital signature will show as invalid in Adobe Acrobat and other viewers. If those digital signatures must stay valid, ask the sender how they want you to sign.
Can I sign on my phone?
Yes. Open the PDF in your phone's browser, tap Signature and draw with your finger. Then tap the page to place the signature and use the corner handle to resize it. For very small signature lines, a tablet or computer makes precise placement easier.
Can I sign a password-protected PDF?
If the PDF needs a password to open, the tool cannot open it. If it opens but blocks changes, saving shows a message that the file is encrypted. Remove the protection with Unlock PDF first, sign the unlocked copy, and protect it again with Protect PDF if needed.
