What Resize PDF does
Resize PDF changes the paper size of every page in a PDF, for example from US Letter to A4 before printing in Europe, or from A3 drawings to A4 for an office printer. It also helps when a document mixes page sizes and should look consistent.
pdf-lib embeds each original page into a new page of the chosen size. The content is scaled proportionally to fit and centered, so it is never stretched or cut off; when the shapes differ, white margins appear. Text and vector graphics stay sharp and selectable. The result is named with the new size, for example report-A4.pdf.
How to use Resize PDF
- Drop your PDF files into the box.
- Set the options for resize pdf.
- Click Apply. The PDF is processed on your device.
- Download the new PDF.
When to use Resize PDF
- Convert a US Letter contract to A4 so it prints without cut-off edges on printers in Europe, Asia or Australia.
- Reduce A3 posters, plans or spreadsheets to A4 so they can be printed on a normal home or office printer.
- Give every page of a merged document the same size after combining scans, exported slides and Letter pages.
- Prepare a PDF in A5 format for a booklet, flyer or small handout before sending it to a print shop.
Settings explained
- Page size
- The target paper size for every page, A4 by default. A4 is 210 × 297 mm, A5 148 × 210 mm, A3 297 × 420 mm, Letter 8.5 × 11 inches and Legal 8.5 × 14 inches.
- Orientation
- Automatic, the default, decides page by page: a landscape page for content wider than tall and a portrait page otherwise. Portrait or Landscape forces one orientation, so content of the other shape is scaled down further.
What is PDF?
PDF (Portable Document Format) is a document format introduced by Adobe in 1993. Files use the .pdf extension.
PDF was created by Adobe to show documents the same way on any device and printer. A PDF file describes pages with text, fonts, vector graphics and images at fixed positions. It became an open ISO standard in 2008, and there are special variants such as PDF/A for archiving and PDF/X for printing.
PDF is the right choice for documents that must look the same everywhere, such as contracts, invoices, forms, manuals, reports and files for printing. It also supports digital signatures, fillable forms, comments and password protection.
PDF is hard to edit, because text is stored as positioned pieces, not as flowing paragraphs. Converting a PDF to Word may change the layout. Scanned PDFs contain pictures of text, not real text, unless OCR has been applied.
All major web browsers open PDF files directly. Windows, macOS, iOS and most Android phones include a PDF viewer, and Adobe Acrobat Reader and many free apps can view, annotate and fill PDF forms on all platforms.
Why use FansBond Resize PDF
Most online converters upload your files to their servers. FansBond Resize PDF does the work inside your browser instead, using WebAssembly and modern browser APIs. Your files stay on your device, which is safer for private photos, contracts and unreleased work, and it is often faster because nothing has to upload or download.
There are no queues, no watermarks and no account. Once the page has loaded, the tool keeps working even on a slow connection.
Tips for the best result
- Moving between A4 and Letter changes the content size only slightly. A Letter page placed on A4 is scaled to about 97 percent, so text stays easy to read.
- Going down two sizes, such as from A3 to A5, halves the width and height of the content. Check that small text is still readable before printing.
- When the new page has a different shape, the content keeps its proportions and white bands appear at the sides or at the top and bottom. This prevents cut-off content.
- If you only need a different size on paper, the fit to page or scale option in your printer settings is an alternative that leaves the PDF unchanged.
How Resize PDF works in your browser
The PDF is opened with pdf-lib, an open-source PDF library that runs in your browser. Pages are copied, rotated, resized or cropped at the PDF object level, so text stays text and vector graphics stay sharp.
Because the original page content is copied rather than re-rendered, there is no quality loss. The only exception is an option that explicitly turns pages into images. The new PDF is assembled in memory on your device and offered as a download.
Privacy and security
Most online converters upload your files to a server, process them there and keep a copy for some time. Resize PDF works differently: the code is downloaded to your browser once, and your files are read and written only on your device.
You can check this yourself: after the page has loaded, turn off your internet connection and the tool still works. This makes it safe for contracts, IDs, medical records, private photos and unreleased work.
Frequently asked questions
Is Resize PDF free?
Yes. Resize PDF on FansBond is completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Your files are processed in your browser on your own device. They are never sent to FansBond or anyone else.
Do I need to install any software?
No. It works in any modern browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge) on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iPhone.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no fixed limit. Because the work happens on your device, the practical limit depends on your device's memory. Most phones handle files of a few hundred megabytes, and computers handle much more.
Will links, comments and form fields survive resizing?
No. Each page is copied as an embedded drawing of its content, so links, comments, form fields and bookmarks are not carried over. The visible text and graphics remain and stay selectable. Flatten forms with Flatten PDF first if their values must stay visible.
Does resizing make the file smaller?
Not noticeably. The page content is reused as it is, so images keep their resolution and the file size stays about the same. To reduce the size, use PDF Compressor after resizing.
Can I resize only some pages?
No, every page is changed to the chosen size. To resize part of a document, take those pages out with Extract Pages from PDF, resize them, and put the files back together with Merge PDF or Organize PDF.
