What Feet to Meters does
Unit conversion expresses the same quantity in a different unit. Feet to Meters multiplies the value by exact conversion factors, for example 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg and 1 ft = 0.3048 m, which are the international definitions. Temperature uses a formula with an offset instead of a single factor.
Results update while you type and are shown with up to six decimal places, formatted for your language. A list below the result shows the same value in every other unit of the same kind, which is handy for recipes, travel, shopping, fitness and school work.

Settings explained
- Category
- Shown only on the general unit converter. Chooses the kind of quantity: length, weight, temperature, volume, area, speed, data or time. The unit lists change to match the category.
- From
- The unit of the value you type. On pages for a fixed pair, such as pounds to kilograms, it is preselected, but you can still switch to another unit of the same kind.
- To
- The unit you want the result in. The result box shows the converted value, and the list below shows the same value in every other unit of the category.
- Value
- The number to convert. You can use a dot or a comma as the decimal separator, and negative values work too, for example for temperatures below zero.
- Swap
- The arrow button between the two units. It exchanges the From and To units, so you can convert in the other direction without choosing the units again.

There are no queues, no watermarks and no account. Once the page has loaded, the tool keeps working even on a slow connection.
Foot (ft)
The foot (symbol ft) is a unit of length in the imperial and US customary systems. Since 1959, the international foot has been defined as exactly 0.3048 meters. One foot equals 12 inches, and three feet make one yard. The United States also used a slightly different survey foot for land measurement, which it officially retired at the end of 2022.
The foot is used every day in the United States for height, room sizes and building plans, and in the United Kingdom and Canada for personal height. Aviation in most of the world measures altitude in feet. As a practical reference, one meter is about 3.28 feet, and a standard interior door in the United States is 6 feet 8 inches tall.
Meter (m)
The meter, also spelled metre, is the SI base unit of length (symbol m). Since 1983, it has been defined as the distance light travels in a vacuum in 1/299,792,458 of a second, which fixes the speed of light at exactly 299,792,458 meters per second. The meter was first introduced in France in the 1790s.
The meter is used for length and distance in nearly every country and in all scientific work. One meter equals 100 centimeters, and 1000 meters make one kilometer. One meter is about 3.28 feet or 39.37 inches. As a practical reference, an interior door is usually a little less than one meter wide, and a long step by an adult is close to one meter.
Tips for the best result
- Type numbers without thousands separators. Write 1500 or 1500.5, not 1,500.5, because a comma is read as the decimal separator.
- Data units here are decimal: 1 KB is 1,000 bytes and 1 GB is 1,000,000,000 bytes, as storage makers count. Some operating systems count in steps of 1,024 instead.
- Cups, fluid ounces and gallons use US measures. A UK (imperial) gallon is about 4.546 liters, not 3.785 liters as in the US.
- For body weight in stone, as used in the UK and Ireland, choose stone (st) in the weight list. One stone is exactly 14 pounds.
How Feet to Meters works in your browser
Conversions use exact factors from international definitions, such as 1 pound = 0.45359237 kilograms and 1 foot = 0.3048 meters. Temperatures use the offset formulas for Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin.
The calculation happens instantly in your browser as you type. Results are rounded for display, and numbers follow the formatting of your language.
Privacy and security
Most online converters upload your files to a server, process them there and keep a copy for some time. Feet to Meters works differently: the code is downloaded to your browser once, and your files are read and written only on your device.
You can check this yourself: after the page has loaded, turn off your internet connection and the tool still works. This makes it safe for contracts, IDs, medical records, private photos and unreleased work.
