Pretvorite MP4 u GIF

What MP4 u GIF does

Converting a video to GIF makes a short, silent animation that plays automatically in chats, forums, documentation and email, where video files are often not allowed or do not play by themselves.

The tool plays the video in your browser and captures frames at the rate you set, scales them to the chosen width and reduces each frame to a palette of up to 256 colors before writing the GIF. Videos that the browser cannot play, such as many AVI files, are decoded with FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly instead. Sound is not included.

Kako koristiti alat: MP4 u GIF

1. Ispustite datoteke (MP4) u okvir ili kliknite da ih odaberete.
2. Odaberite izlazni format i željene postavke.
3. Kliknite Pretvori. Pretvorba se izvodi na vašem uređaju.
4. Preuzmite svaku datoteku zasebno ili sve odjednom kao ZIP.

When to use MP4 u GIF

• Turn a short screen recording into a GIF that shows a software feature in a README or help article.
• Make a reaction GIF from a funny moment in a phone video to share in a group chat.
• Create an animated product preview for an email newsletter, since most email apps do not play video.
• Convert one step of a video tutorial into a looping GIF that people can watch again and again.

Settings explained

Start and end

Sliders under the video preview select the part to convert, in steps of 0.1 seconds. The whole video is selected at first, so choose a short range. Without a preview, the first 15 seconds are used.

Frames per second

Sets how many frames are captured for each second of video, from 5 to 30, with 12 as the default. 10 to 15 looks smooth for most clips; higher values make the file much larger.

Width

The GIF width in pixels, from 64 to 1920, with 480 as the default. The height follows the video's aspect ratio. 320 to 480 is enough for chats; larger widths increase the file size quickly.

Loop forever

When it is on, which is the default, the GIF repeats endlessly, as most people expect. Turn it off to make a GIF that plays once and stops on the last frame.

What changes when you convert MP4 to GIF

GIF has no sound and only 256 colors per frame, so keep clips short (under 10 seconds) and small. A 480-pixel-wide GIF at 10 to 15 frames per second is a good balance between quality and file size.

Format comparison

Što je MP4?

MP4 (MPEG-4 Part 14) je format za video predstavljen 2001. godine (razvio: MPEG). Format koristi kompresiju s gubicima. Datoteke imaju nastavak .mp4.

MP4 is a container format defined in part 14 of the MPEG-4 standard and based on Apple's QuickTime file format. It holds separate video, audio and subtitle tracks. The video is usually H.264 or H.265, sometimes AV1, and the audio is usually AAC. The codecs inside, not the container, decide the quality.

MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio is the most compatible choice for sharing video. It works well for uploads to social media and video sites, playback on phones and TVs, and video embedded in websites.

Compatibility depends on the codecs inside. An MP4 with H.265 or AV1 video may not play on older devices or in every browser. H.264 and H.265 are patented codecs. Editing and saving again with a lossy codec reduces quality.

MP4 plays in all major web browsers, on Windows, macOS, Android and iOS, on smart TVs and game consoles, and in players such as VLC. H.264 MP4 is the safest choice when you do not know the device.

Što je GIF?

GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) je format za slike predstavljen 1987. godine (razvio: CompuServe). Format koristi kompresiju bez gubitaka, podržava prozirnost i može sadržavati animaciju. Datoteke imaju nastavak .gif.

GIF was introduced by CompuServe, and the later GIF89a version added animation timing and transparency. Each frame uses a palette of up to 256 colors and is compressed with the LZW algorithm. The LZW patents caused disputes in the 1990s, but they have expired and GIF is now free to use.

GIF is useful for short, simple animations, reaction images and small graphics with few colors, especially where an animation must play without a video player, such as in some email clients, chat apps and older websites.

The 256 color limit makes photos and video look grainy or banded. Animated GIFs are very large compared with the same clip as MP4 or WebM. Each pixel is either fully transparent or fully visible, so edges can look rough.

GIF opens and animates in every web browser, on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS, and in almost all messaging apps, email clients and image viewers. Some image editors only show or edit the first frame.

Tips for the best result

• Keep clips short. Every extra second adds another full set of frames, so a 30-second GIF is roughly ten times larger than a 3-second one.
• Scenes with little movement and flat colors, such as screen recordings, give much smaller and cleaner GIFs than camera footage.
• GIF shows at most 256 colors per frame, so skies, skin and other gradients can look banded. This is a limit of the format itself.
• If you need sound or a long clip, share an MP4 instead. GIF has no audio and grows very large as the clip gets longer.

How MP4 u GIF works in your browser

GIF files can only hold 256 colors per frame, so the tool analyzes each frame, builds the best palette for it and maps every pixel to that palette. Video frames are first extracted with a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg.

The encoder and the GIF decoder run in JavaScript and WebAssembly inside your browser tab. Frame timing, looping and size are written directly into the GIF file, so the result plays the same way in every browser and chat app.

Privacy and security

Most online converters upload your files to a server, process them there and keep a copy for some time. MP4 u GIF works differently: the code is downloaded to your browser once, and your files are read and written only on your device.

You can check this yourself: after the page has loaded, turn off your internet connection and the tool still works. This makes it safe for contracts, IDs, medical records, private photos and unreleased work.
