What RAR in ZIP does
Archive conversion unpacks every file from one archive and packs the files into another format. RAR in ZIP reads RAR (version 4 and 5), 7Z, ZIP and TAR archives with libarchive compiled to WebAssembly, as well as files compressed with GZ, BZ2 or XZ. It writes ZIP, TAR and TGZ with the fflate library, and 7Z with its own writer that uses Deflate compression.
The files themselves are copied byte for byte; only the packaging changes. This helps when you receive a format your system cannot open, since ZIP opens without extra software on Windows, macOS, iOS and Android.

- Folders are kept, but empty folders are not, because only files are repacked. File dates are kept, while Linux permissions such as the executable flag are not.
- The whole archive and all unpacked files are held in memory at the same time. For archives of several gigabytes, use a computer rather than a phone.
- A 7Z file made here uses Deflate, the same method as ZIP, so it is not smaller than a ZIP. Choose 7Z only when the recipient needs it.
- Split archives such as .part1.rar or .7z.001 cannot be converted, because the tool reads one file at a time. Join the parts with desktop software first.
