Převodník archivů online

What Převodník archivů does

Archive conversion unpacks every file from one archive and packs the files into another format. Převodník archivů reads RAR (version 4 and 5), 7Z, ZIP and TAR archives with libarchive compiled to WebAssembly, as well as files compressed with GZ, BZ2 or XZ. It writes ZIP, TAR and TGZ with the fflate library, and 7Z with its own writer that uses Deflate compression.

The files themselves are copied byte for byte; only the packaging changes. This helps when you receive a format your system cannot open, since ZIP opens without extra software on Windows, macOS, iOS and Android.

Jak používat nástroj Převodník archivů

1. Přetáhněte soubory RAR, ZIP, 7Z, TAR, GZ, TGZ, BZ2 a XZ do pole, nebo je vyberte kliknutím.
2. Zvolte výstupní formát (ZIP, 7Z, TAR a TGZ) a případná nastavení.
3. Klikněte na Převést. Převod proběhne ve vašem zařízení.
4. Stáhněte jednotlivé soubory, nebo všechny najednou jako ZIP.

When to use Převodník archivů

• Convert a RAR file from a download or a colleague to ZIP so it opens on a work computer without WinRAR.
• Repack a 7Z archive as ZIP for someone using an iPhone, where ZIP files open without an extra app.
• Turn a ZIP into a TGZ for a Linux server, a deployment script or a tool that expects TAR archives.
• Open a .tar.xz or .tar.bz2 source package on Windows by converting it to a ZIP file first.

Settings explained

Output format

Chooses the new archive type. ZIP opens everywhere, TGZ (TAR plus gzip) is common on Linux and macOS, TAR packs files without compression, and 7Z opens in 7-Zip and similar apps.

ZIP compression

Shown when saving as ZIP. Normal is a good balance, and Maximum is slower and slightly smaller. None (fastest) stores files without compressing them, which suits photos, videos and other files that are already compressed.

Archive password (if protected)

Enter the password when the source archive is encrypted. It is used only to open the archive; the new archive is saved without a password. Leave the field empty for normal archives.

Format comparison

Co je RAR?

RAR (Roshal Archive) je archivní formát z roku 1993, jehož autorem je Eugene Roshal. Formát používá bezeztrátovou kompresi. Soubory mají příponu .rar.

RAR is a proprietary archive format created by Eugene Roshal and used by the WinRAR program. It compresses files into one archive and supports archives split into several volumes, recovery records that can repair damage, and AES encryption. The current RAR5 version was introduced with WinRAR 5.

RAR is useful when you need archives split into several parts or recovery data that can repair partly damaged files. Often you simply receive RAR files and need to extract them. For new archives, ZIP or 7Z is more open.

Only WinRAR and the official RAR tools can create RAR archives, because the compression method is proprietary. Other programs can only extract them. Encrypted or damaged archives cannot be opened without the password or enough recovery data.

Recent versions of Windows 11 can extract RAR files in File Explorer. On older Windows versions, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS, apps such as WinRAR, 7-Zip or The Unarchiver are needed. Web browsers cannot open RAR files.

Co je ZIP?

ZIP (ZIP Archive) je archivní formát z roku 1989, jehož autorem je Phil Katz. Formát používá bezeztrátovou kompresi. Soubory mají příponu .zip.

ZIP was created by Phil Katz of PKWARE for the PKZIP program. It compresses each file separately, usually with the DEFLATE method, and stores a central directory of all files at the end of the archive. Many other formats, such as DOCX, EPUB, JAR and APK, are ZIP archives internally.

ZIP is the best choice for sending several files or folders as one download, for email attachments and for sharing with people on any system, because it opens almost everywhere without extra software.

ZIP compresses less than 7Z, RAR or XZ, especially with many similar files. The traditional ZIP password protection is weak. AES encryption is stronger but not supported by every built-in tool. Very old tools may show non-Latin file names incorrectly.

Windows, macOS and most Linux desktops create and open ZIP files without extra software. Android and iOS can open them in their file apps, and every archive program supports the format.

Co je 7Z?

7Z (7-Zip Archive) je archivní formát z roku 1999, jehož autorem je Igor Pavlov. Formát používá bezeztrátovou kompresi. Soubory mají příponu .7z.

7Z is the open archive format of 7-Zip, a free program created by Igor Pavlov. It usually uses LZMA or LZMA2 compression, which gives high compression ratios. It supports solid compression, where many files are compressed together, as well as AES-256 encryption that can also hide file names.

7Z is a good choice when you want the smallest archive, for example for backups, large software packages or collections of many similar files, and when the recipients can install 7-Zip or a compatible program.

Compression and extraction at high settings can be slow and use a lot of memory. In a solid archive, extracting one file may require reading the files before it, and damage can affect many files. Built-in system support is limited.

Recent versions of Windows 11 can extract 7Z files. 7-Zip on Windows, The Unarchiver and Keka on macOS, 7-Zip or p7zip on Linux, and many Android and iOS file apps open them. Web browsers cannot open 7Z files.

Co je TAR?

TAR (Tape Archive) je archivní formát z roku 1979, jehož autorem je Bell Labs. Formát používá bezeztrátovou kompresi. Soubory mají příponu .tar.

TAR, short for tape archive, was created on Unix to write files to magnetic tape. It joins many files and folders into one file and keeps permissions, ownership, timestamps and symbolic links. TAR itself does not compress anything, so it is usually combined with gzip, bzip2, xz or zstd.

TAR is the standard way to bundle files on Linux and other Unix-like systems, for example for source code, backups and server transfers, especially when file permissions and links must be preserved.

A plain TAR file is not compressed, so it is about as large as the files inside it. To read one file, a program may need to scan the whole archive. Unix permissions have little meaning on Windows.

Linux and macOS include the tar command, and Windows 10 and later include it too. 7-Zip, WinRAR, The Unarchiver and most other archive tools open TAR files. Phones usually need a file manager or archive app.

Žádné fronty, žádné vodoznaky a žádný účet. Jakmile se stránka načte, nástroj funguje i na pomalém připojení.

Tips for the best result

• Folders are kept, but empty folders are not, because only files are repacked. File dates are kept, while Linux permissions such as the executable flag are not.
• The whole archive and all unpacked files are held in memory at the same time. For archives of several gigabytes, use a computer rather than a phone.
• A 7Z file made here uses Deflate, the same method as ZIP, so it is not smaller than a ZIP. Choose 7Z only when the recipient needs it.
• Split archives such as .part1.rar or .7z.001 cannot be converted, because the tool reads one file at a time. Join the parts with desktop software first.

How Převodník archivů works in your browser

Archives are opened with libarchive, the same library used by many operating systems, compiled to WebAssembly. It reads RAR, ZIP, 7Z, TAR, GZ, BZ2 and XZ files and lists every file inside.

The extracted files are then packed into the new archive format in your browser. ZIP and GZIP use the Deflate algorithm, and folder structure and file names are kept.

Privacy and security

Most online converters upload your files to a server, process them there and keep a copy for some time. Převodník archivů works differently: the code is downloaded to your browser once, and your files are read and written only on your device.

You can check this yourself: after the page has loaded, turn off your internet connection and the tool still works. This makes it safe for contracts, IDs, medical records, private photos and unreleased work.
